Fixed Braces
Fixed braces can be ceramic or metal. They are glued on so there is no injection or pain. Because they are glued on, the patient cannot eat toffees or jellies which will break off the brackets. Also it takes a little longer to brush your teeth. Fixed appliances are much more powerful than removable braces and can move teeth in all three dimensions. Simple alignment may only take 6 months whereas full treatment may take 18 months to 2 years.
All fixed braces are placed on the outside or labial and some are placed on the lingual like the Incognito appliances. To get a beautiful smile as quickly as possible it is necessary to keep your appointments, brush your teeth as instructed and not eat any toffees or jellies or hard sweets and wear any auxiliaries like elastics as instructed. It may be a good idea to take some Ibuprofen or Nurofen for the first few days while your mouth gets used to the braces initially but most people do not need any painkillers.
